Talam cannot be Trinity

PETALING JAYA: High-end project developer Trinity Group Sdn Bhd has succeeded in stopping the former Talam Corporation Bhd from calling itself Trinity Corporation Berhad.

The Puchong-based developer has won the right to stop Trinity Corp from using the name after claiming that it has caused confusion over the widely publicised Talam Corp debt recovery exercise with the Selangor Government.

“The recent Talam debt recovery exercise has caused a lot of confusion among our customers, business partners and the general public,” said Trinity Group managing director Datuk Neoh Soo Keat during a press conference here.

“There were many enquiries urging us to clarify the issue, as many mistook our company for Talam Corporation Berhad.

“This confusion in the marketplace has greatly affected our business,” Neoh added.

Trinity Group was awarded the injunction by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Sept 26 - almost a year after the suit was filed in Oct 2011.

Talam Corp has filed an appeal against the decision.

Neoh also said that the court had awarded his company damages but the amount had yet to be assessed.

He said Trinity Group would be looking ahead to expand its business around the Klang Valley and Johor.

Although the court had decided in September, Neoh said his company only chose to announce the decision yesterday because it had a property launch coming up later in the month.

“Whoever is associated with us should also feel confident with us and I hope our creditors and banks now trust us fully,” he said.

Talam Corp was involved in a major debt recovery exercise with the state government amounting to more than RM1bil and rebranded itself as Trinity Corp in August, last year.

On July 3, MCA Young Professionals Bureau chairman Datuk Chua Tee Yong challenged the Selangor Government to explain how its exercise to recover a RM392mil debt from Talam ended in questionable deals worth over RM1bil.
